October so far

8 October 2009, 8:07 pm

Well, we start back to recording and gigging next week.
In the meantime I've been working on a couple of recordings with other bands,
I've had In Case Of Fire back in the studio, which is always loads of fun
and the recordings and songs are better every time, so that's been great.

I've been installing new plug ins, like EMI eqs and what not
and tuning up a Ludwig Black Beauty, getting ready for Shaun's return.

We have some amazing opportunities to work with people on the new album,
we need to figure out the cash to make it happen, but when we do,
which we just have to, it will be so exciting!

Hope everyone in Ireland can get out to see us at:

Oct 13th - Academy II - Dublin w/ Frank Turner
Oct 14th - Stiff Kitten - Belfast w/ Frank Turner
Oct 17th - Belfast City Hall -Belfast. All Ages gig £3 - tickets from Belfast Welcome Centre.

September looks good to me

Well, we played two gigs in one day for Arthur Guinness Day in Dublin.

It was total chaos.
Firstly, our car started to make us think it was going to break down about 20 miles outside Dublin,
but we made it there.

We soundchecked in Hogans, where we were due onstage at 8pm and then went to Spy, where we were due onstage at 6.15pm

We were told the production was running late at Spy and to turn up at 5.30pm.

When we did, there was no P.A. system, it arrive, in a lorry half way down the street at 5.50pm.
We had to push and carry the PA to the venue, set it up ourselves, pipe into the house system.
There only seemed to be one plug socket in the room that was powering everything, from speakers to
fridges, lights and fans....

We got set up and went on late, I can't remember what time now.
It was fun enough, but a strange set up, really rushed and chaotic and the gig probably suffered for all that.

Luckily Hogans was fantastic! The crowd were lovely, the set up was great, lovely crew, fun times indeed.

----------

So we're really excited about playing the Belfast City Hall show on October 17th.
It'll be a special gig, re-opening the City Hall. The BBC are recording the show and we have some surprises planned.

---------

We're also going to be playing two Irish Dates (Dublin oct 13th -Belfast oct 14th) with Frank Turner,
which we're really looking forward to, as it's been too long since we played together.

--------

We're taking a couple of weeks break from album recording while Shaun takes a trip away,
we have nine songs recorded, another six or so to go and some really exciting news we're sorting out about a couple of people who are going to get involved, if all goes to plan!

First group of sessions are over!

6 September 2009, 8:48 pm

We've completed a couple of weeks of recording in the studio.

So far we've recorded seven songs.
Our longest song, which is making the previous oldest song feel like Major Television Events.

I like it though, lots of ideas.

Six Blocks That Way, We Have Some Dos And Don'ts and Let's Get The Hell Out Of Texas have all been recorded, we've been playing them live for a while.

We're taking a break for a week,
Shaun's heading back to NYC to take care of a few things and I'm recording with
another band for a few days.

After that we're getting back into it, we have another 10 songs to dig into and they're the ones I'm most excited about.

The most fantastic sounds have been from my Dipinto Mach IVs, ZVex Fuzz Factory, an old Fender Twin and the Minimoog Voyager going crazy!

We're also only three weeks away from our return to live music!
We'll be playing two shows in Dublin at the Arthur Guinness Day celebrations.

Day two!

22 August 2009, 1:33 am

We worked from 1pm til just after 10 today,
completing all the parts for Six Blocks That Way
and getting it in shape and starting on another track,
which has been transformed from a good idea in a wall of noise!

Plenty of loud guitars, an old Fender Twin cranked, with a Tubescreamer or a Zvex Fuzz Factory plugged into it.
My Dipinto 10 String made a couple of appearances too.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's adventures!

Ten String in Action!

Recording day one

21 August 2009, 3:04 am

Today we got together at Start Together in Belfast to record album number three.

We started by tackling a song we've been playing for a while, Six Blocks That Way.
It's changed a little bit from what we've been playing and I love where it's going!

Tomorrow we're recording the last vocals and getting a mix in shape.
