Dublin day 2!
30 November 2009, 2:28 amThe crowd at the Olympia on Saturday seems doubly up for it compared to Friday.
Fun was had:
Things that happened on Saturday:
*Finally getting a mini jack to tape for the car stereo to enable the playing of good (and bad) music.
*Eddie Rockets (an american themed Diner across Ireland) - Our one tour treat during these "tough" times.
*Talking about tour buses going on fire.
*Hearing all 30 or so security staff saying "Oppenheimer" in fantastic Dublin accents at the same time during
their pre match briefing.
*Seeing Barry Peak!
*Single handedly loading the trailer in about two minutes during a downpour of hailstones.
*Shaun thinking it was totally cool to leave his car unlocked in the street (with boot open) at 2am while he went inside his house to go to the bathroom (this takes time) while no one else was around. Explanation: "Have you never owned a car? it's what you do" He locked it, we didn't get robbed.
I've been writing more songs in a slightly different style than ever before.
Recorded a new one this past week and got the idea for another one today.
I'm looking forward to seeing where they go.
dublin part 1
28 November 2009, 2:15 pmWe are currently on our way to dublin for the second olympia gig with bell x1.
Last nights highlights included:
A lovely crowd.
A man shooting up on the street outside a restaurant.
One drunk guy not understanding pro tools etc.
Pizza.
Seeing someone we know on the street and all shouting like the cat lady from the simpsons at them.
Listening to radio ulster.
We just got a tape to listen to ipods in the car, I'm lining up dookie by green day, I'm not sure why.
Wexford!
26 November 2009, 2:14 pmSo our first gig with Bell X1 went like this:
10.45am
Shaun picks us up, he had a sore eye that was a little red during rehearsals yesterday,
it's now REALLY red and there's a bump and he is rared out.
He seeks medical assistance while Chris & I wait in the car thinking of the cruelest things we can do.
1. Bag of flour in the face on his return.
2. going into the doctors surgery with a box of marbles being all like "eyes for sale"
3. unsuitable for tour diary - but easily the funniest.
11.30am
Pick up our trailer from storage. The warehouse isn't ours, indeed it's a favour of friend that lets us keep it there.
Chris sees a fork lift truck and jumps in and I'm all like "get out of the forklift" as visions of hundreds of failblog videos go through my mind
When he started it up is when I started to tell him I was going to punch him into the face, so he stopped, but laughed a lot.
We loaded the van and I did some Pro Tools fixing at the studio and we hit the road to Wexford.
Without a means of plugging cds or ipods into the car stereo we had good old Radio Ulster to entertain us.
Getting a shout of from Uncle Hugo we covered the following things;
Shaun hates it when Uncle Hugo blows kisses over the microphone.
Hugo joining his name with co-host Joe as Huoe was brilliant!
Listeners to Hugo Duncan have the best names : "Red Diesel Bertie" and so on!
From there we talked loads about bizarre nights on tour and made it down to Wexford for about 5.30pm.
The hotel was really nice and the staff were super friendly. We got set up on quite a cramped stage and sound check early enough to be given a really nice dinner!
Our dressing room was a hotel bedroom, filled with all sorts of delicious treats and a little tv.
We played to an initially unsure and stand offish crowd, but they soon moved forward and interacted little bit.
In a hotel function room, it wasn't the gritty experience we're used to in Ireland, it was a little bit unusual as a result, but we had our fun.
It was a really noisy crowd in general, even the whole way through the headliners set, half the crowd were loudly talking, quite strange really and we were wondering amongst ourselves if that's normal for Wexford,
as we've never been here before.
We hit the road at 12.30am and made it home before 5.
We were stopped by inquisitive police on the way who were all questions.
The stars were out in Wexford last night, in a way you just don't get to see in Belfast, I think it was
my favourite thing about the day.
We're in the studio today and we're looking forward to the Olympia tomorrow and Saturday!
